Gradings

Club Gradings - upto 3rd kyu (brown belt)

These gradings are for eligible students only (min. no. of sessions attended, passed mock grading and invitations given out ~2 weeks before the grading).  These gradings will be taken within the club and officiated by Sensei Sharon Goodwin Doash, 6th Dan and team.  Gradings held, every 3 months, in March, June/July, September and December.  [NB. For those that only attend term-time clubs i.e SDP & SJC, there may be a mid-year/Feb. and end of year/June/July grading for those upto 9th kyu red stripe.*].  

The next gradings will be :-

  • Mock Gradings will take place in June.:

    Students wishing to grade should make every effort to attend these mock gradings and their regular classes during the summer.  Please ensure you are on-track to attend the minimum amount of sessions required for your grade (including courses).

  • Club Grading  for those taking grades upto 3rd kyu, brown belt, grading will take place on :-
    •  Sunday 30th June., 15:00 (regular class at 14:00), Studio 1, Pavilion Leisure Centre, Kentish Way, BR1 3EF.
  • End-of-Year Grading  for those who only train at 'term-time only clubs' (SJC-Tues./SDP-Mon&Wed taking grades upto 8th kyu, red belt, grading will take place on :-
    • Tuesday 2nd July 17:15 (invitation only)

Association Gradings - for Brown & Black Belts

These gradings are for eligible 3rd kyu students and above only (min. no. of sessions attended (or for black belts min. years with regular training), and minimum standard reached, students must be recommend by their sensei for these senior gradings).  These gradings will be taken at Association level and officiated by Sensei Tom Tennick, 6th Dan and Sensei Sharon Goodwin Doash, 5th Dan.  Gradings held, every 6 months, in April/May and October/November.  The next gradings will be:- 

  • Saturday 18th May, 4:00pm - 5:00pm - Bellingham Leisure Centre.  There will be a Referee Course at 2:00pm before the Grading.  The grading will be officiated by Sensei Tom Tennick and Sensei Sharon Goodwin Doash.

Minimum age 12 years (Junior black belt 12-15 years; Senior 16+).  ShoDan-Ho (temporary) may be issued = black and white belt.

 

1 year min. training twice per week + courses. 

( Junior black belts who continue to train regularly automatically get Senior black belt at aged 16, otherwise retake grade at 16yrs+)

2nd Dan

Minimum age 18 years

 

2 years min. training twice per week + courses

3rd Dan

Minimum age 21 years

 

3 years min. training twice per week + courses

4th Dan -

10th Dan

For each Dan grade add an extra year of training etc. 

E.g. between 3rd and 4th Dan  = 4 years, between 4th and 5th Dan = 5 years.
